There are a lot of things that our beautiful city does right: beautiful parks, historical attractions, and great food everywhere you look. If there's one thing that brings people together besides a championship run, it's a 26.2 mile run known as the Philadelphia Marathon taking place the weekend of November 21st. Each year, nearly 30,000 people come from all over the world to participate in one of the three races offered, the full marathon, the half marathon, and the 8k.
Many people around town have done it for many different reasons, and that's why it has become a staple of the community. It's time and place for us to gather and celebrate another year. That's why Barbera's Autoland put together 5 great reasons to run in the Philly Marathon.
Push Yourself
There's no greater feeling than setting a goal and working day in and day out to achieve it. This is one of the biggest reasons people train for a marathon in the first place. It takes months of dedication and commitment to get your body and mind in shape, and the payoff is a day of fun and joy with people who've gone through the same struggle. Just imagine crossing that finish in front of the majestic Art Museum.
To Honor A Loved One
This can be a great way to honor someone you deeply care about. It's a fun way show how much you care and raise money for a worthwhile cause of your choice. Dedicating a run to someone is a great way to motivate yourself and do something you didn't think was possible.
To Be A Part Of Something Bigger
With 30,000 participants expected this year, and countless fans along the way to cheer the runners on, there's few experiences that provide the rush that the Philly Marathon does. Get swept up in the excitement and the energy. It's sure to be a great story to tell one day.
To See The City In a Different Way
All the hustle and bustle of everyday life can prevent you from stopping to look around at the beautiful place we get to call home. The marathon gives you a completely different perspective of Philly. Imagine running down the Ben Franklin Parkway under all the flags, enjoying breathtaking views of the Schuylkill from Fairmount Park, and winding through the heart of Manayunk. There's no better way to take a tour of Philadelphia than running its streets like one of our greatest movie characters once did.
To Say You Did
Around here we like to say "Been there, done that." Few tales can top completing a 26.2 mile marathon through the City of Brotherly Love. There's nothing wrong with a little boasting around here, and from the Navy Yard to the neighborhoods of North Philly, you can join the venerated club of marathon runners who can boldly claim, "I finished!"
To register for the race, go to the Philadelphia Marathon site, and sign up before it's too late.
