Having a family means you always need a little more space in your vehicle. One of the most common choices to accomplish this goal is acquiring a minivan. Unfortunately the downside to this choice is paying a little extra at the pump when it comes time to refill between soccer practices and marching band competitions. At least that's the way things were looking, up until Chrysler announced a plug-in hybrid version of its flagship Town & Country minivan!
The full details of the vehicle aren't crystal clear right now, but according to interviews with Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne, the vehicle is coming and it's going to change the game for minivans. Are you ready to live family life without having to worry about gas? Philadelphia Chrysler drivers are about to get that option!
Minivan, Major Potential

While all the details have not been confirmed by Chrysler, the company has revealed that the Town & Country will get 75 MPG and will be "the best minivan you can possibly imagine," according to Marchionne. The vehicle is expected to have a 3.6-liter gasoline engine and a 12.1 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. The van will be charged by a 6.6-kilowatt charger, meaning the vehicle can be fully charged and ready to go on battery power alone in between two and four hours. You'll get about 22 miles on a full charge, which is perfect for getting to and from work, picking the kids up from school or getting to and even getting home from purchasing one at your Philadelphia Chrysler dealership when it's out!
So why is Chrysler making the crossover into an electric minivan, as opposed to another gas-powered one? Marchionne told CBS News that he doesn't think the gas-only minivan format will be viable for much longer considering regulatory changes that dictate fuel efficiency and emissions.
The company expects the full scope of the model to be available at the coming International Auto Show in January 2016 in Detroit.
