Eating a cheesesteak in Philadelphia is a rite of passage that millions take part in each year. Once you've had a traditional cheesesteak, there's really no going back. But what makes the perfect cheesesteak? It's the bread...no, the cheese...no, the steak. Whatever "it" is for you, you're likely to find it on our list of the best places for Philly cheesesteaks.

Dalessandro's Steaks & Hoagies

Dalessandro's has been serving up some of Philadelphia's most delicious cheesesteaks since they first opened their doors in 1960, and though times have changed, their delicious cheesesteaks haven't. In addition to their amazing sandwiches, the restaurant offers a huge menu of imported and domestic beers and gourmet sodas to go with your meal. The restaurant has been featured on FOX 29 Philadelphia's Hot List, as a Best of Philly in Philadelphia Magazine, and in Gourmet magazine.

Dalessandro's Steaks & Hoagies is open Monday to Saturday from 11 am until midnight and Sunday from 11 am until 9 pm. Grab a cheesesteak today at their location at 600 Wendover Street, near Fairmount Park.

John's Roast Pork

While they may be best known for their roast pork sandwiches, this restaurant serves up one of the most delicious cheesesteaks in Philly. John's Roast Pork was recently featured in The Washington Post's search for America's best food cities for Philadelphia as a great place to eat a cheesesteak in town.

John's Roast Pork is open Monday through Friday from 7 am until 7 pm and Saturday from 9 am until 7 pm. Grab a cheesesteak today at their location at 14 East Snyder Avenue.

Joe's Steaks & Soda Shop

This restaurant claims to have perfected the cheesesteak, and while we're skeptical when someone says they have the best cheesesteaks, we're not sure we can complain because their cheesesteaks are delicious! Located in Fishtown, Joe's Steaks & Soda Shop is a local favorite thanks to their delicious recipe that dates back to the restaurant's opening in 1949.

Joe's Steaks & Soda Shop is open at 1 West Girard Avenue Sunday through Wednesday from 11 am until 10 pm, Thursday from 11 am until midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 11 am until 3 am.

Jim's Steaks South Street

South Street's own Jim's Steaks is a favorite for locals and tourists alike. If you need proof, just look at the long line during the lunch rush during the height of Philadelphia's tourist season.

Jim's Steaks has been serving up delicious cheesesteaks since 1976, so if you're looking for a classic cheesesteak in one of the hippest neighborhoods in the city, this is your best option.

Jim's Steaks, which is located at 400 South Street, is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am until 1 am, Friday and Saturday from 10 am until 3 am, and Sunday from 11 am until 1 am.
