Performance and Handling
The 2015 Chrysler 300 offers two powerful engine options. The first is a 3.6-liter V6 24-valve Variable Valve Timing (VVT) engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The second is a 5.7-liter V8 HEMI MDS VVT engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.Â
The vehicle is available in rear- and all-wheel drive versions and offers four-wheel independent suspension in the comfort, performance, or touring levels. The vehicle can get up to an EPA-estimated 19 city and 31 highway mpg.Â
On the other hand, the 2015 Ford Taurus offers three smaller engines: a 3.5-liter Ti-VCT 24-valve DOHC V6, a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged direct injection EcoBoost V6, and a 2.0-liter T-VCT EcoBoost I4. These are paired with either a six-speed electronically controlled SelectShift automatic transmission or a six-speed electronically controlled SelectShift automatic transmission with paddle activation. The vehicle is offered in either front- or all-wheel drive.Â
When it comes to power, the 2015 Chrysler 300 has better options, despite the fact that both vehicles are in the affordable large car class. In addition to offering a larger engine, the Chrysler 300 offers a smooth ride thanks to its four-wheel independent suspension systems and available Sport Mode. While the Ford vehicle feels like an affordable vehicle, the Chrysler vehicle feels more like a luxury vehicle.
Entertainment Technology
The 2015 Chrysler 300 comes standard with a six-speaker audio system and an 8.4-inch touchscreen display. The system includes SiriusXM Satellite Radio with a one-year radio subscription; steering wheel-mounted audio controls; Uconnect access; Integrated Voice Command with Bluetooth; a media hub for SD, USB, and auxiliary; and a remote USB port.Â
To compare, the 2015 Ford Taurus comes standard with only an AM/FM stereo with a single CD player with clock and MP3 capability. You'll have to upgrade to get SiriusXM Satellite radio, SYNC with MyFord, and the 8-inch color LCD touchscreen. Of course all of these are available at a steep premium and at a lower functionality than the same features that are standard on the 2015 Chrysler 300.Â
In terms of entertainment, the 2015 Chrysler 300 has clear advantages. Offering a spectacularly easy-to-use infotainment system as a standard feature puts it a head above the Ford Taurus. Pair that with the unfortunately less-than-stellar performance of the system in the Ford Taurus and making a decision between the two is actually easy.
