The 2016 Dodge Dart and the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze are just two of many options in the affordable compact car class today, which can make choosing the best vehicle for your wants, needs, and budget challenging.

Check out this vehicle comparison from Barbera Autoland to get the inside scoop on these two vehicles.

Performance and Fuel Economy

An efficient base engine powers the 2016 Dodge Dart: a 1.4-liter 16-valve Multi-Air I4 turbo that produces 184 lb-ft of torque despite its small size and is paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission or the available six-speed dual dry clutch automatic transmission. The vehicle gets up to an EPA-estimated 28 city and 41 highway mpg.

The vehicle also offers a 2.0-liter Tigershark engine that produces 160 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission and gets an EPA-estimated 25 city and 36 highway mpg.

The final engine option is a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir engine that produces 184 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. This powerful engine gets up to an EPA-estimated 23 city and 35 highway mpg.

To compare, the 2016 Chevy Cruze's base engine feels underpowered for the vehicle. Not only is its highway passing power less than desired, but it's also louder at highway speeds. So when comparing the two, the difference is really all about performance. And while the vehicle does get good fuel economy, it's still not quite at the 41 mpg you'll get with the Dodge Dart.

Interior Comfort and Features

When it comes to comparing the interior of the two vehicles, there's a lot to consider. The interior of the Dart is conveniently designed. The infotainment system is just beyond the steering wheel, making it easy to access while driving. And the climate controls are just past the gear shift, which makes altering the vehicle's climate easy.

While the Dart's center stack is mostly out of the way, being lower but within easy reach, the Cruze's center stack is much higher and more prevalent. The gearshift also seems to be higher than in the Dart. Choosing between the two is largely about preference, but the Dart's interior seems more convenient and easily accessible compared to the Cruze.
